Dead Man Walking
Dead Man Walking is a true story written by Sister Helen Prejean, a nun whose ministry work lead to her being a spiritual advisor to Patrick Sonnier, a murderer on death row. Sister Helen visits Patrick for the first time, scared out of her mind. She is eventually able to work past what Patrick did and become his friend. Patrick’s execution is scheduled for April 4. Sister Helen knows that what Patrick did was wrong and that is why she believes that murdering him as a punishment is also wrong. Sister Helen does not believe in capital punishment but rather life sentences without the option of parole. Walk with Sister Helen as she begins a long journey of her fight against capital punishment. This book is an eye opener about death penalty and all the secrets within the prison walls. People who would like this book would be anyone interested in learning. This book goes into depth about capital punishment, presenting the sides of the murders families and the victims’ families. Read this book to learn both sides of the truth about America’s justice system from a firsthand witness. - Michelle K., class of 2012
