If I Stay by Gayle Forman

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, however it's a bit of an easy read. The writing is fairly average, however I did find myself caring about the characters and what they stood for. The plot revolves around a 17 year old girl named Mia, who has been in a car crash with her entire family, and tells the story of her decision making process- to live, or not to live? Mia is in a coma for the entirety of the book, however her character is very well-developed and easy to relate to. Overall, I will give this book a 7 out of 10 just because the writing was perhaps for a younger crowd. This book is bound to make you appreciate your own family, friends, and past experiences, and will absolutely be a tear-jerker. Enjoy it! - Courtney H., class of 2012
