The Shack by Paul Young

Paul Young definitely kept my attention with this best-selling novel! He tells the story of Mack, a father that takes his children on a trip that is meant to be carefree and special. However, there is one sudden turn of the canoe when his kids decide to spend time on the lake, and they eventually face great danger! During the course of this novel, Mack must figure out the true meanings of concepts such as love, patience, forgiveness, and hope. In addition, Young does a wonderful job of developing Mack's mannerisms and personality as he goes through certain life-changing events; Mack kept me reading because he was constantly in a struggle with God whenever he had a problem in his life. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys books with valuable lessons and characters that are easy to relate to. If you would like to figure out what the title really means, you must read this book to find out! - Brittany G., class of 2012
